Location

Dorchester is Dorset's county town offering an abundance of shopping, markets and museums. You can visit the remarkable Roman townhouse or take a walk around the huge Iron age hill fort at Maiden Castle.

For those into Literature, Dorchester features as 'Casterbridge' in many of the novels of Thomas Hardy whos cottage is now a local tourist attraction

There is also an excellent literary section in the award-winning County Museum, which includes a careful reconstruction of Hardy's study - right down to the pen he used to write Tess of the D'Urbevilles.

Military enthusiasts will enjoy the Military Museum, whilst the Tutankhamun Exhibition, a Dinosaur Museum and the Teddy Bear House Exhibition offer plenty for everyone.

Dorchester also boasts The Terracotta Warrior's Museum, the only museum outside China exclusively dedicated to the amazing Terracotta Warriors.

Wednesday is market day, just a few steps from Dorchester West station this historic market is well worth a visit.

By Road

Coming from the East (London, Salisbury, Southampton, Bournemouth)

At the bypass roundabout take the Town Centre exit, stay on that road and at the top of the High Street we are on the left.

Coming from the West (Exeter, Yeovil, Honiton, Bridport)

Take the Town Centre exit on the bypass roundabout, stay on that road until you get to the Top of Town roundabout. Take the High Street Exit and we are on the right.


By Rail

Trains regularly arrive at Dorchester West Train station.From Bristol / West Country and at Dorchester South from Southampton / London

Transportation (taxis) can be arranged for transfers to and from the stations
