Dorset County Museum

The museum closed two years ago for a £16m refurbishment and is due to reopen on 28th May 2021 with four new galleries, a collections centre, library, shop and cafe.
A new £16m extension will allow the museum to display more of its four million artefacts, including fossils, sculptures by Dame Elisabeth Frink, novelist Thomas Hardy's pens and Bronze Age axes.

Thomas Hardy Conference and Festival

The Thomas Hardy Society is an educational Charity founded in 1968 with the intention of promoting public knowledge and understanding of the life and works of the Dorset poet and novelist to anyone with an interest in Thomas Hardy anywhere in the world.
The next Thomas Hardy Conference and Festival runs from 23rd to 29th July 2022.

Dorset County Show

For more than 175 years the Dorchester Agricultural Society has celebrated rural life and the agricultural roots of Dorset. Since the first show in 1840 the Dorset County Show has now developed into a 2 day spectacular and a staple of the Dorset events calendar.

Due to current restrictions, this year's show has been cancelled.

Maybe you are a collector, a steam fanatic, an exhibitor, a heavy horse fan, an avid camper, a music fan or just on holiday in the South of England over the August Bank Holiday weekend and fancy an excursion to what is described as the most remarkable show on earth!

Tolpuddle Martyrs' Festival and Museum

The Tolpuddle Martyrs' Museum tells the harrowing tale of the Martyrs arrest, trial and punishment, leading to the foundation of modern day trade unionism.
