Whether it's the two Iron Age hill forts of Maiden Castle and Poundbury, the Roman Town House close to the line of the old Roman Walls, the house designed and lived in by Thomas Hardy, HRH King Charles lll's urban extension at Poundbury with it's open spaces and interesting shops and eateries or the modern redevelopment of the former brewery - there is lots for everyone to enjoy.

The museum closed two years ago for a £16m refurbishment and the new extension will allow the museum to display more of it's four million artefacts, including fossils, sculptures by Dame Elisabeth Frink, novelist Thomas Hardy's pens and Bronze Age axes.

The Thomas Hardy Society once again invites you to visit the home town of our beloved author to celebrate his life and work through lectures, walks, entertainment and spending time with your fellow Hardyans.

For more than 175 years the Dorchester Agricultural Society has celebrated rural life and the agricultural roots of Dorset. Since the first show in 1840 the Dorset County Show has now developed into a 2 day spectacular and a staple of the Dorset events calendar.
Next year's show is 7th and 8th September 2024.
